I hear a lot more about how it works, and how it might transform SL: "It is quite possible to render almost any Open GL application in stereo. But to do this you need driver level software, workstation graphics cards and a suitable projection system (usually dual 'polarized' projectors or high refresh rate 'shutter glasses') . This kit is not domestic and can be very, very, expensive. I have been lucky enough to have some access and experience of these technologies." Ian is a member of the Serious Games Institute, which recently asked him to demonstrate Second Life in Stereo 3D, and that's what you see above. "As a back-up for this demonstration (technology can be so fickle!) I decided to create a short machinima and investigated how I could do this quickly on my own kit at home."
Much more from Mr. Pahute after the break:
"First a bit of research. I discovered that Eric Maslowski at the University of Michigan 3D Lab had created code that enabled Second Life to drive a stereo output (this-- surprisingly -- appears to have been received somewhat lukewarmly by Linden Lab.) I then found an open source viewer patched by Dale Glass to include this code. You get an extra option under the graphics tab. Normal, Anaglyph and Shutter. Hit anaglyph and SL renders with red and cyan auras. Pop on your glasses and SL pops out of the screen!
"I chose AM Radio's The Far Away for two reasons. One it is a well known SL artwork. And the corn looks awesome when you run around it big screen in stereo. Second, for the anaglyph rendering, the colours are perfect. An issue with anaglyph is if there are any reds or blue in the scene it can upset the effect. In essence you can feel like you have migraine. Luckily the Far Away is essentially yellow!
"It was then a case of firing up FRAPS, capturing the shots and editing into a machinima. I did take quite a lot of care with the shots. They are long - to enable the audience to accommodate the 3d effects and I have tried to minimize movements that would give them a headache! That is so easy to do and if you take a look at the other stereo SL Machinima's on YouTube you will see what I mean (have the paracetamol ready!)
"One of the reasons I uploaded the machinima was to show what was possible. I have been lucky and have seen the power of stereo SL when run on commercial kit. And it is the closest thing you get to stepping into another world! I am amazed that Linden (and also NVidia - who produce an excellent domestic shutter glass system) have not been more interested in supporting Second Life . Hopefully machinima's like 'The Far Away' will persuade them to look again?"

E1 MUSIC SIGNS KITTIE
NEW ALBUM, IN THE BLACK, TO BE RELEASED
ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2009
(New York, NY) — E1 Music announces the addition of Canada’s KITTIE to its heavy metal roster. Under this worldwide deal, KITTIE will release three albums for the label.
KITTIE (Morgan Lander—vocals and guitar, Mercedes Lander—drums, Tara McLeod—guitar, and Ivy Vujic—bass guitar) has released four studio albums during its career which have sold collectively over 1,250,000 copies. The band’s new album, IN THE BLACK, is slated for release on September 15, 2009. Some new songs on the album are “Cut Throat, “Sorrow I Know” and “My Plague.”
KITTIE vocalist Morgan Lander says, “We are totally thrilled and honored to be working with Scott Givens and to now be part of the E1 family. We have been hard at work for the past few months perfecting our latest musical offering and are pleased with the final result of IN THE BLACK. It is everything that Kittie is supposed to be: heavy, fast, brash and nasty, yet at times introspective, feminine and emotional. One thing it is not, however, is compromising of the sound and style that we have come to be known for. This s*** is HEAVY! Our new label pairing with E1 will actualize the vision that we have held constant over the years for the band."
E1 Music VP of Metal Scott Givens adds, “As a band, KITTIE truly is a one of a kind powerhouse. I know I speak for everyone at E1 Music when I say how excited we are to be working with them and launching IN THE BLACK to the masses.”
Currently the band is working on Fall tour plans and will be shooting two videos during the month of July.

Happy Canada Day!
Canada Day celebrates the events that occurred on July 1, 1867, when the British North America Act created the Canadian federal government. The BNA Act proclaimed "one Dominion under the name of Canada," hence the original title of the holiday, "Dominion Day." Dominion Day was officially renamed "Canada Day" by an Act of Parliament on October 27, 1982. This change reflected the policy of successive governments to down play Canada's colonial origins.
Canada's national celebration is always observed on July 1, unless that date falls on a Sunday, in which case it is observed the following day.
All Canadians are entitled to Canada Day off work - although some people have to work. (like Police, Fire and emergency service workers).
To all my fellow Canadians!
I hope you enjoy the day with family and friends and remember what a great country we have!

We Did it! Finally, I had a grand Opening Of the Club house. he turn out was great! I got friendly Fire to play at the grand opening they where so glamtastic! They rocked the new sim so hard! I had to go afk for a few came back like 10 min. before the show and it was already filling up we had around 35 40 people in there in my Club Rocking it to a live band that kicked ass! Every one seemed to like it a lot Dj Joltfreek Was there as well he is looking forward to coming back to the School and Dj'n He has been wanting to for a long time but they pay some one now to dj there so I got the best dj in SL for free! I am loving it seems to fall into place I hope it keeps up and stay busy. It is hard now because you have to tp to the school and walk a half of sim to get to my club and if joltfreek is dj'n or even when friendly fire played u can just hang at the school instead of walking half a sim and still hear and enjoy, So i probably would have had lots more in the club if they could come to the club instead of a half a sim away but I still made it work, there was only like 2 or 4 people at the school and like 35-40 in my club during the event! So it worked out great! hoping to get a tp in spot to the club soon if it happens will let you know tell then just take a left between the tv and dance poles, follow the road over the bridge follow the other road pass vendor spots then you will start to see the club. So I will be there as always waiting to see you and the party will be kicking and contest will happen soon and often very often.

The Blues brothers came threw the school and rocked it today! I am Almost done with the club, unless it is to be changed to something else that is. When the blues brothers played i had a chance to talk very briefly about it and what will happen. I was wanting to get friendly Fire to play Monday but it is to late for a Monday show for them now. that would have packed the Sim they always do a real life band playing into Second life they rock! but maybe i can get them before there vacation in July. I am just wanting to talk the rest of the details out with the people that it needs to be talked with and finish up maybe add a few little things. Then going to party hard there, if thats what we end up using it for. When we did have the chance to talk in was in a conference and the two talking just had me lost not sure if they where talking about the same thing our two different ideas or to take the club down put up a frat house, I am not sure I was lost in that conversation and was never cleared up on any of it. only time will tell. I hope it does not end up sitting there with me in it to it is to late and it gets returned, at least i will have a chance to pick up my things cause i am always there. So fill free to come over and say hello. Well Lets see what happens and tell the next post huggles and kisses!
